21 Billion Gallons and Beyond!

The U.S. Renewable Fuels Standard requires the use of 600 million gallons of advanced biofuels in 2009, increasing to 21 billion gallons by 2022. The 2009 Advanced Biofuels Workshop, now co-located with the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo, will address provisions of the RFS and current efforts to commercialize, low-carbon, advanced biofuels technologies.

The U.S. government defines advanced biofuels as any renewable fuel—other than ethanol derived from corn starch—that is derived from renewable biomass, and achieves a 50 percent GHG emissions reduction requirement. The definition—and the schedule—of advanced biofuels include cellulosic biofuels, biomass-based diesel and other low-carbon transportation fuels.

This dynamic one-day event will focus on technology updates, feedstock management, market challenges, R&D activities, and near-term policy development supporting advanced biofuels.

More than 350 attendees are expected, including investors, lenders, project developers, engineers, technology providers, equipment suppliers, feedstock suppliers, biofuels marketers, researchers, academia, policymakers and other industry stakeholders.

Advanced biofuels discussed will include:

  • Cellulosic ethanol
  • Algae-based fuels
  • Biomass-based diesel
  • Renewable and green diesel
  • Green gasoline
  • Bio-crude
  • Biobutanol
  • Biobased jet fuels
  • Pyrolysis oil (bio-oil)
  • And more!
